Kay's Country Store is back under local ownership, and it's better than ever! Try a massive Kay's sandwich--yes, they are back and HUGE again--or any number of the hot foods they now have available. It may be a gas station, but it's still the best (and only) place to eat in Chadwick. In all seriousness, great people and they provide a great service to Chadwick and all its many visitors.
My fiance and I were camping in the area, went in here for soda refills. She charged him $1.12 for a 44oz REFILL, 30 mins later, I go in for same thing, ask how much the refills are and she tells me $1.49 for a 44oz, so whilst filling my cup, I look up at posted soda prices on board, and notice she's charging me full original price of soda and not for a refill. With prices listed as such- 16oz refill=$.69, 320z refill=$.99, and she told me a 44oz refill=$1.49.... She stated, and I quote "bc your buying more product, and with the 32oz your not paying for another cup" MY response was as follows- "so you only charge $.30 cent difference between a 16oz, and 32oz soda, when there's more product (16oz)to buy in between the 16 And 32oz soda, whereas my 44oz you are charging me $1.49when there is only 12 more ounces in MY CUP, (HENCE THE REFILL)!! So when I politely ask her about it, I got "well you can just not bother coming back in here anymore, I'm the owner I can say and do as I please, and she SLAMMED MY CHANGE ON THE COUNTER" I replied with "no ma'am that's NOT how it works, you run a BUSINESS!! You have no right to treat people like that, and your clearly trying to rip me off". She proceeded to curse me and be the rudest person I have EVER encountered while only trying to refill my drink, THE FIRST TIME I HAD EVER BEEN IN HER ESTABLISHMENT!!! I have NEVER been TREATED SO DISRESPECTFULLY by ANY other business local or otherwise, in my entire life!! So I guess if your not a "local" the owner of this place thinks she can treat and speak to you HOWEVER she pleases!! Well NOT when your patrons are your bread and butter... I WILL BE reporting her and her So called "business" to the BBB, or anyone else who knows how a store should be run and how your customers should ALWAYS BE TREATED WITH COURTESY!!! NEVER AGAIN WILL OUR HARD EARNED MONEY BE SPENT IN SUCH AN AWFUL PLACE, WITH ITS RUDE, DISRESPECTFUL OWNERS!!!! NEW PATRONS BE WARE!!!
Nice place to get quick supplies before a ride or if you need something while camping. Stop here to get passes for dirt biking at Chadwick ATV ORV and Motorcycle area in Mark Twain National Forest. It's a small convenience store and the people are nice. Only one bathroom, so go before you get there.
